Vietnam authorities respond to heavy rain and flooding risks

Vietnam is facing significant weather-related challenges across several regions. In Hanoi, heavy rainfall has caused prolonged flooding in areas like My Luong village, where hundreds of households remain submerged after five days. Following the tragic death of a student who fell into an open drainage pit, the Hanoi People's Committee has ordered police to investigate the theft and consumption of manhole covers and directed authorities to urgently inspect all drainage systems to ensure public safety.

In Khanh Hoa, authorities are accelerating the dismantling of the Xuan Phong temporary saltwater prevention dam on the Cai Nha Trang River to prevent flooding and ensure smooth water flow ahead of the rainy season. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued warnings for Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and the Southern region, forecasting heavy rainfall of up to 200mm. Local authorities have been instructed to inspect irrigation works, prepare emergency response plans, and monitor reservoirs to mitigate risks of landslides and flooding.
