Hanoi completes DNA sampling of 4,468 martyr graves

Hanoi has completed the excavation and sampling of remains from 4,468 martyr graves, finishing 15 days ahead of the municipal deadline and three months ahead of the national schedule. This effort is part of a 500-day national campaign to intensify the search, recovery, and identification of fallen soldiers.

Of the 52,134 graves in the capital's 340 martyr cemeteries, 21,121 have complete information and 26,545 have partial data, leaving 4,468 requiring DNA analysis. During the mission, teams successfully collected samples from 3,672 graves that met the necessary requirements, while 796 did not. The collected samples have been transferred to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for analysis.

The operation involved over 3,000 personnel and specialized technical equipment. Additionally, municipal police deployed approximately 100 officers across five teams to collect DNA samples from the relatives of martyrs in 126 communes and wards. To date, more than 28,000 DNA samples have been collected from families, and 45,950 records have been updated in the national population database.
