Hanoi considers Vingroup proposal to dredge Red and Da Rivers

Hanoi authorities have expressed fundamental agreement with a proposal from Vingroup to research a plan for dredging and renovating the riverbeds of the Red River and Da River. The project aims to improve flood drainage, stabilize river channels, and ensure dike safety and inland waterway transport.

The initiative seeks to achieve three primary objectives: enhancing flood control and water drainage, creating a proactive supply of land-filling materials for major infrastructure projects in the capital, and ensuring the efficient management of recovered mineral resources to increase state budget revenue.

City Chairman Vu Dai Thang noted that this large-scale project is unprecedented as it involves socialized capital. Officials emphasized that the research must be scientifically sound to prevent erosion or adverse effects on upstream and downstream water supplies. Furthermore, the plan must align with the capital's 100-year master plan and ensure transparent management of recovered materials to prevent illegal mineral exploitation.
