Hanoi court sentences man to life for fatal neighbor dispute

The Hanoi People's Court has sentenced Nguyen Van Hoan to life imprisonment for murder and the illegal use of military-grade weapons. The sentencing follows a fatal altercation with a neighbor that occurred in February 2026.

The incident began when a neighbor, identified as Mr. H, confronted Hoan regarding water flowing from Hoan's location into the neighbor's property. Following a verbal dispute and physical provocation, Hoan used a large knife to stab Mr. H multiple times in the forehead, chest, abdomen, and limbs. Forensic examinations determined that Mr. H died at the scene due to acute blood loss and respiratory failure caused by puncture wounds to the heart, lungs, and liver.

Hoan, who has five prior convictions for theft and drug possession, was apprehended in Phu Tho province on the day of the incident. The court's decision concludes the legal proceedings regarding the fatal dispute.
