Hanoi declares emergency due to landslide risks in Vat Lai

The Hanoi People's Committee has declared a natural disaster emergency in Vat Lai Commune following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in late July and mid-August 2026. The instability is centered around the former Phu Nhieu Cultural House in Trung Ha village, posing a direct threat to the structure and eight neighboring households.

Authorities have ordered the immediate suspension of all activities at the cultural house until it is deemed safe. Local officials are required to install warning signs, fences, and cordons to prevent people and vehicles from entering the danger zone.

Emergency response measures include implementing temporary reinforcement solutions and monitoring weather conditions closely. The city has instructed local authorities to prepare for the timely evacuation of residents if necessary, with provisions for temporary housing and essential supplies. In urgent cases, authorities may exercise compulsory evacuation to ensure public safety.
