Hanoi elderly women hospitalized after severe domestic dog attacks

Two elderly women in Hanoi have been hospitalized at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases following severe attacks by domestic dogs.

A 73-year-old woman was attacked by a 20kg mother dog while cleaning near its puppies. The attack resulted in over 10 wounds, including a deep bite on the forearm that caused an open fracture of the radius bone. Doctors are treating her for potential shock, blood loss, and infection while administering rabies prophylaxis.

A 76-year-old woman, who has been paralyzed for approximately six years, was also attacked while bedridden. The force of the bite and tearing caused extensive skin avulsion on her left forearm, stripping away skin and subcutaneous fat to expose the muscle fascia. Medical staff are performing wound cleaning and debridement, alongside rabies vaccinations.
