Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway wins international sustainable finance award

The Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway has been honored at the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards in Germany. The project was nominated by the Vietnam Development Bank (VDB) and selected as a finalist by the European Sustainable Development Organization (EOSD).

At the ceremony, leadership from the EOSD and the city of Karlsruhe presented the award for ‘Excellent Innovation in Sustainable Financial Products and Services’ to VDB for its role in the project. The expressway, managed by the Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Financial Investment Corporation (VIDIFI), serves as a critical transport corridor connecting Hanoi, Hai Phong, and the northern economic regions.

The 105.5 km project was completed in 2015 with a total investment of approximately 45 trillion VND (1.8 billion USD) under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The award recognizes the project's successful model of mobilizing and combining domestic and international resources, including funding from the Vietnam Development Bank and the German Reconstuction Bank (KfW), to implement large-scale infrastructure.
