Hanoi launches 2026 Clean Up the World Campaign

Hanoi hosted the launch of the 2026 Clean Up the World Campaign, centered on the theme “From clean plates to clean cities.” The initiative, originally launched globally by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1993, focuses on addressing food waste and waste management.

During the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Trong Yen noted that food and organic waste account for approximately 50% to 70% of the total solid domestic waste in Vietnam. Addressing this issue is critical for reducing pressure on urban infrastructure and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

The campaign encourages community participation through initiatives such as the “21-day sorting” program. Officials called on businesses, local authorities, and citizens to reduce waste at the source, implement waste sorting, and promote circular resource models to build more sustainable, green urban environments.
