Hanoi launches electronic bus ticketing system, ending paper monthly passes on July 1
Hanoi's Department of Construction announced that the city‑wide, multi‑modal electronic ticketing system for public buses entered operation on 25 June 2026. From 1 July, paper monthly passes are no longer valid on subsidised bus routes, while previously issued physical and virtual e‑cards remain usable.
Passengers paying cash continue to receive a flat fare calculated to the route’s end point. Cash‑less riders must tap a physical transit card or scan a QR code on boarding and again when alighting; the system then calculates the fare based on a base charge of VND 3,000 plus VND 450 per kilometre travelled. The new platform digitises ticket issuance, payment and service verification, and links data among transport operators, regulators and commuters, improving fare accuracy, refunds for short trips and passenger‑flow statistics for better network management.
