Hanoi launches integrated electronic fare system for citywide public transport

On 25 June 2026, Hanoi officially put into operation an integrated electronic ticket system covering the entire public‑transport network. The platform digitises ticket issuance, payment, and operational monitoring, enabling real‑time data collection and centralized management of buses, future metro lines, taxis and ride‑hailing services. Passengers can pay via transport cards, bank cards, QR codes or a smartphone‑based e‑ticket, and the system calculates fares based on actual travel distance.

The system automatically identifies trips within the city’s inner Loop 1 (Vành đai 1) and applies a free‑fare policy for residents from 1 July 2026 through 30 June 2027, as mandated by the Hanoi People’s Council. Officials highlight that the digital platform will improve transparency, reduce congestion and emissions, and lay the groundwork for a broader smart‑city transport ecosystem.
