Hanoi pilots electric vehicles and standardized bags for waste collection
Hanoi has launched a pilot program for a new waste collection system in the Le Thanh Tong residential group of Cua Nam Ward. Starting in early October, residents are using standardized transparent gray bags with handles, available in 10-liter and 40-liter capacities, to collect household waste.
The program requires residents to sort waste into four categories: recyclables, hazardous waste, bulky waste, and remaining waste. Only the remaining waste is to be placed in the standardized bags. After 8:00 PM, residents transfer their collected waste to specialized electric three-wheeled vehicles, which are designed to navigate the area's narrow alleys.
The pilot, a collaboration between the Cua Nam Ward People's Committee and URENCO Hanoi, is scheduled to run through December 31, 2026. During the initial three months, the standardized bags are being provided to households and businesses free of charge.
