Da Nang police dismantle 4 billion VND online loan fraud ring

Police in Da Nang and Hanoi have dismantled an inter-provincial criminal ring that defrauded hundreds of victims of over 4 billion VND through fake online loan advertisements. Led by Vu Duc Phong, the group used social media pages like ‘Huan Linh Group’ and impersonated internet personality ‘Huan Hoa Hong’ to build trust. The suspects used Telegram to coordinate and requested victims to pay various ‘processing fees’ or ‘taxes’ before releasing loans, only to block contact once more money was extorted.

In separate news across Vietnam, authorities are addressing various public safety and order issues. In Hanoi, traffic police have launched a campaign to monitor and penalize students and parents for traffic violations, such as riding electric motorbikes without proper licenses or helmets, ahead of the new school year. Additionally, officials in the capital are implementing traffic diversion plans to ensure smooth movement during school opening ceremonies.

Other reported incidents include a fire on the 9th floor of an apartment building in Hanoi, which was quickly extinguished without casualties, and local authorities in Lam Dong assisting students through flooded areas to attend school. In Ho Chi Minh City, officials are investigating the vandalism of newly installed bus shelters on Pasteur Street.
