Hanoi police stop gold‑selling scam targeting 2008‑born student

Hanoi police intervened on July 16, 2026 after a gold‑shop employee reported a 2008‑born student, V.L.B.V, who arrived with 24 gold bars, three rings, a necklace and about 89.5 million dong in cash – nearly 700 million dong in value. The student said she had been contacted by callers claiming to be police officers, who threatened her family and demanded she sell the assets and transfer the proceeds to a “investigation account” linked to a supposed drug case.

Police officers from the Ha Dong precinct verified the claim, reassured the girl, and stopped the transaction. The seized assets were returned intact to the family and the student was taken home safely. Authorities warned the public that police never request money transfers or asset sales by phone, urging people to hang up, avoid providing personal or banking information, and report suspicious calls immediately.
