Hanoi Police warn of dangerous new malware targeting mobile devices

Hanoi Police have issued an urgent warning regarding two highly dangerous new types of malware targeting mobile devices and organizational information systems. These threats are designed to steal personal information, hijack banking applications to embezzle funds, or extort government agencies and businesses.

The first threat, RedHook, is a next-generation spyware targeting Android users. It disguises itself as legitimate public service applications such as eTax Mobile or VNeID, often distributed via fake messages on Zalo, Telegram, or SMS. Once installed via a malicious .APK file, RedHook can gain full control of a device without requiring root access. It is capable of recording screens, logging keystrokes, reading OTP messages, and automatically executing unauthorized bank transfers.

The second threat, StormEncryptor, targets the internal networks of agencies and enterprises. Identified in mid-August 2026, this ransomware is attributed to the professional hacking group Storm-1175 and poses a significant threat to servers and workstations.
