Hanoi police warn of high‑interest savings scam targeting residents

The Hanoi City Police have issued a new warning about fraudulent schemes that advertise “special‑rate” savings packages with interest rates of 15 % to 20 % per year. Scammers create fake bank websites, social‑media pages and QR‑code flyers, impersonate bank staff, and lure people to transfer money to personal accounts or disclose passwords, OTPs and card details. Once they obtain the information, they seize control of the victims’ accounts and steal the funds.

Authorities advise the public to use only official bank apps or branches for deposits, to verify the authenticity of any online platform, and never share login credentials, PINs or OTPs. Anyone who suspects a scam should immediately contact their bank to block transactions and report the incident to the nearest police station.
