Hanoi Police warn of rising e-commerce scams
Hanoi Police have issued a warning to online shoppers regarding increasingly sophisticated fraudulent tactics used to steal personal information and money. Scammers are reportedly impersonating e-commerce platforms, well-known brands, and customer service representatives to deceive consumers.
Common methods include using fake logos, websites, social media accounts, and even forged official documents to establish credibility. Fraudsters often contact victims through calls or messages claiming they have won prizes, are eligible for gifts, or need to participate in promotional programs. In these scenarios, victims are pressured to provide personal data or transfer funds for purported shipping fees or order confirmations.
Another prevalent tactic involves fake recruitment schemes where individuals are invited to work as online collaborators or order processors. Scammers initially provide simple tasks with small commissions to build trust, eventually requesting much larger sums of money for advanced tasks, after which they prevent victims from withdrawing their funds.
