Hanoi Police warn of safety risks in unregulated bottled water

The Hanoi Police Department has issued warnings regarding the safety of large-capacity bottled water (19-20 liters) commonly used in homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses. While these products offer convenience by eliminating the need for boiling or filtering, they pose significant health risks if production processes are not strictly controlled.

Concerns stem from the fact that manufacturers often self-declare product quality, yet failures in filtration, disinfection, bottling, or storage can compromise safety. The market currently contains numerous brands of unknown origin that do not meet food hygiene standards. This is particularly concerning in schools and hospitals, where consumption is high. Contaminated water can lead to bacteria, viruses, and pollutants causing food poisoning, diarrhea, gastrointestinal diseases, and malnutrition, posing a severe risk to children and patients with weakened immune systems.
