Hanoi provides support to family of student killed in drainage accident
Hanoi authorities have provided 32.5 million VND in social welfare support to the family of an 18-year-old student from the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology who died following a drainage accident.
The incident occurred on September 17 in the Dong Ngac ward after heavy rains caused strong currents and whirlpools near a drainage manhole on Vien Street. The student's body was discovered approximately 1 km away from where his motorcycle was found.
Hanoi's Chairman, Vu Dai Thang, has ordered an investigation to clarify the responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals. The drainage system in the area is managed by the Technical Infrastructure Management Center of Hanoi, with maintenance performed by a consortium consisting of Viet Uc Urban Joint Stock Company and 68 Service Trading and Construction Joint Stock Company. Authorities are working to determine if the manhole cover was missing at the time of the accident.
