Hanoi reconstruction and the political legacy of Tố Hữu

The historical period following the liberation of Hanoi on October 10, 1954, marked a significant transition for the city as it moved from wartime conditions to a period of peace and reconstruction. Following the takeover, authorities worked to restore essential urban systems, including administration, transportation, electricity, water, and healthcare. On November 4, 1954, the Hanoi Administrative Committee was established under the chairmanship of Dr. Trần Duy Hưng, facilitating the shift from military management to civil administration.

During this era, Tố Hữu (born Nguyễn Kim Thành) emerged as a prominent revolutionary poet and political figure. Having joined the revolution at a young age and survived various imprisonments by French colonial forces, he held numerous high-ranking positions within the Party, including roles in propaganda, culture, and education. He eventually served as a member of the Politburo and held the position of Deputy Prime Minister, representing a unique intersection of literary influence and high-level political leadership in Vietnam.
