Vietnam advances financial reforms and market upgrade preparations

Vietnam is experiencing significant financial and market developments as it prepares for its stock market upgrade to emerging market status by FTSE Russell on September 21, 2026. This transition is expected to attract substantial passive capital, with estimates suggesting initial inflows of approximately $240 million from global index funds.

In London, the Ministry of Finance hosted the Vietnam Capital Market Day 2026 to strengthen financial ties between Vietnam and the United Kingdom. The event, held in collaboration with the London Stock Exchange, aimed to boost international investor confidence and explore cooperation opportunities.

In Hanoi, local authorities and the State Bank of Vietnam are working to unlock financial resources to drive double-digit economic growth through 2030. Major banks, including Agribank, Vietcombank, and BIDV, have committed to financing key infrastructure, urban, and green transition projects in the capital. Additionally, the Ministry of Construction has set a target to certify 1,200 green buildings nationwide by 2030 to promote sustainable development.
