Hanoi student hospitalized for depression following suicide attempt
A female student in Hanoi, currently entering 9th grade, has been hospitalized for depression following a suicide attempt. The student, identified as N. N., was admitted to the Adolescent Department at the National Children's Hospital after her family discovered her attempt two weeks ago.
Despite her parents not imposing high expectations, the student reported that she placed extreme self-imposed pressure on herself to excel in her selective class. She felt a constant need to rank in the top 5 or top 10 to avoid feelings of disappointment. This internal pressure led to chronic insomnia, anxiety, and exhaustion. She attempted to manage her mental state through strict study schedules and self-help methods, but the persistent lack of sleep and negative thoughts eventually led to her crisis.
