Hanoi tests specialized misting vehicles to combat dust

Hanoi is conducting a trial of specialized misting vehicles designed to reduce suspended dust and improve urban air quality. Operated by the Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO), the trial involves three vehicles deployed across six central routes, primarily operating between 11:00 PM and early morning to minimize disruption to traffic and residents.

These specialized vehicles, manufactured in 2025, feature a 5,300-liter water tank that can be refilled in approximately seven minutes near the La Thanh metro station. Unlike standard street cleaning trucks that use high-pressure water to wash road surfaces, these vehicles use a system of nozzles to create ultra-fine water droplets that disperse directly into the air. These micro-droplets attach to suspended dust particles, causing them to aggregate and settle.

During operation, the vehicles move at a controlled speed of 6–8 km/h. Drivers manage the misting process via an intuitive control panel, while onboard cameras allow for monitoring of the spray nozzles. The trial, which includes a total spraying distance of approximately 71.38 km, serves as a basis for evaluating the effectiveness of this technology in urban environmental management.
