Hanoi to connect VNeID with ASEAN digital identity systems

Hanoi authorities have initiated the implementation of connecting the national electronic identification application, VNeID, with the electronic identification systems of ASEAN member states. This move aims to facilitate cross-border electronic identity services, which is expected to simplify immigration procedures, attract investment, and boost tourism and high-quality services.

The Hanoi People's Committee has directed local departments and agencies to promote the activation of level 2 electronic identification accounts for all eligible citizens. The project involves close coordination between the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Science and Technology to ensure cybersecurity, data sovereignty, and personal data protection.

A pilot phase for immigration workflows using VNeID, alongside regional systems like Singpass and LAeID, will be tested at Noi Bai International Airport. Authorities are tasked with evaluating the impact on immigration processing times and integration with existing control processes, with a target completion date for assessments by December 31, 2026.
