Hanoi to provide financial support for premarital health screenings
Hanoi is implementing a support program to encourage young couples to undergo premarital health examinations. Under a national target program for healthcare, population, and development for the 2026–2035 period, the city aims to ensure that 90% of couples receive counseling and health screenings before marriage by 2030, increasing to 95% by 2035.
To incentivize this proactive approach, the city will provide 1 million VND in support to each couple undergoing these screenings. Experts, including Vu Duy Hung from the Hanoi Department of Population, Children, and Social Vices Prevention, emphasize that these checkups are vital for detecting hereditary diseases, infectious diseases, and congenital defects such as Thalassemia.
Beyond identifying medical risks, these screenings provide counseling on reproductive health and family planning. This allows couples to better prepare for safe pregnancies and the long-term health of their future children.
