Hanoi transitions 1,710 school administrators to teaching roles

Hanoi has restructured its educational system, reducing the number of educational institutions from 2,356 to 1,097, a decrease of 53.4%. Following this reorganization, the city has transitioned 1,710 management officials, including principals and vice-principals, into direct teaching roles.

Despite these shifts, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training reports a shortage of more than 7,200 teachers compared to required quotas. The total number of management personnel has also decreased from 5,484 to 3,202, representing a 41.6% reduction.

During a working session with the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the 2026-2027 school year, officials addressed several pressures facing the capital's education sector, including high student numbers, enrollment challenges, and shortages of classrooms and teachers. Additionally, the city is implementing a chain-based management system for semi-boarding meals to ensure food safety, covering everything from supplier selection to food sampling and monitoring.
