Hanoi unveils 90‑meter wide Đặng Thai Mai road project along West Lake

The Đặng Thai Mai road expansion (Phase I) in Hanoi has been publicly displayed, showing a corridor up to 93.6 m wide along the West Lake peninsula. Approved on 26 August 2024 under Prime Minister Decision 1668/QD‑TTg, the 1.26 km route runs from the Tây Hồ villa district to its junction with Xuân Diệu Street.

The project costs nearly VND 553 billion, including VND 391.4 billion for land acquisition and VND 82.8 billion for construction. It features two distinct cross‑sections: a central landscaped axis 51.6 m wide flanked by traffic lanes of 19‑21 m, and a narrower segment with an 11.25 m carriageway and sidewalks of over 4.6 m. The development aims to relieve congestion during holidays and major events, improve connectivity between the Tây Hồ area and surrounding districts, and add green spaces, cultural parks, and a new Ngọc Trai opera house.

By June 2026, land acquisition and resettlement are expected to be completed, with construction of trees and sidewalks already underway. Officials say the road will act as a catalyst for the Quảng An peninsula’s infrastructure, supporting Hanoi’s “green‑civilized‑modern” vision and preserving the West Lake heritage.
