Fatal accidents reported in Hanoi workshop fire and Central African gold mine collapse

Two separate fatal incidents have been reported in Vietnam and the Central African Republic.

In Hanoi, Vietnam, a fire broke out at a woodworking workshop within the Ngoc Hoa Industrial Cluster in Chuong My district on August 19. The blaze, which reportedly began following a machinery-related explosion, caused structural collapses at the Mộc Bùi Gia workshop. The incident resulted in three deaths and three injuries. Authorities noted that the facility had been suspended since October 2021 due to fire safety violations and had been penalized for failing to comply with that suspension.

In the Central African Republic, a landslide at an artisanal gold mine in Zamboye village caused a massive collapse on August 18. Local officials and Red Cross volunteers report that at least 100 people have died, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue efforts continue. The victims include citizens from both the Central African Republic and Cameroon. This disaster follows a series of similar mining accidents in the region throughout the year.
