Hanoi woman appeals sentence for scratching Mercedes-Benz

A woman in Hanoi, Mai Thi Bich Van, has appealed a first-instance court ruling regarding the intentional damage of a Mercedes-Benz GLC200. In her appeal, Van requested that her sentence be reduced from a six-month suspended prison term to a fine.

The victim, identified as D. B. N., has also filed an appeal. The victim is seeking a reassessment of evidence, damages, and the legal responsibility of Van’s husband and daughter. Specifically, the victim is requesting compensation for lost revenue resulting from a vehicle rental contract valued at 35 million VND per month, which could not be fulfilled due to the damage and subsequent investigation.

The initial ruling by the District 4 People's Court in September 2026 sentenced Van to six months of suspended imprisonment for “intentionally damaging property” and ordered her to pay 671,000 VND in compensation.
