Actor Hans-Joachim Heist, widely recognized for his role as the choleric Gernot Hassknecht on the satire program ‘heute-show’, is taking on a contrasting role in the new ZDF sports comedy ‘Die Abräumer’.

In the film, which stars Bettina Lamprecht, Heist portrays an introspective older man coping with the loss of his wife. He finds solace through a colorful new group of friends and a bowling community. The 77-year-old actor, who also performs in the ‘Heinz-Erhardt-Abend’ tour and conducts readings, discussed his experiences with aging and the importance of humor in an interview marking the film's release. ‘Die Abräumer’ is scheduled to air on ZDFneo on August 26.
