Hans Maurer, former Bavarian Agriculture Minister, dies at 93

Hans Maurer, the former Bavarian Minister of Agriculture, has passed away at the age of 93. His family announced that he died following a short illness at the Ansbach Clinic.

Maurer, a member of the CSU, had a long political career in Bavaria. After working as a teacher, he entered the Bavarian State Parliament in 1970. He served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Education in 1986 and later became the Deputy Minister of Agriculture. From 1990 to 1993, he held the position of Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet of Max Streibl. Additionally, he served as the Chairman of the Board of the Bayerische Landesstiftung from 1999 to 2010.

Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder honored Maurer, describing him as a “statesman of the highest order.” Söder noted that Maurer dedicated decades to the service of the state and its citizens, particularly advocating for the interests of farmers during periods of structural change. He was also recognized as a valued advisor to younger members of parliament.
