HanseWerk Natur begins construction of new heating plant in Grömitz

HanseWerk Natur, a subsidiary of the HanseWerk Group, has commenced construction of a 670-square-meter energy center in Gildestraße, Grömitz. The facility will feature a large-scale heat pump with a capacity of 1.2 megawatts, which is equivalent to approximately 250 small residential heat pumps.

The project aims to replace a portion of existing natural gas-based heat generation with renewable energy sourced primarily from ambient air. By integrating this new facility with the existing biomethane combined heat and power plant, the company expects to provide approximately 60 percent renewable heat to Grömitz by 2028. This transition is projected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by roughly 1,550 tons.

The project is supported by federal funding through the ‘Bundesförderung effiziente Wärmenetze’ (BEW) program. Preparatory civil engineering work, including the installation of 220 meters of new district heating and supply lines, was completed during the previous winter.
