Hanshin Tigers face scheduling and weather hurdles in title race

The Hanshin Tigers, currently leading the league with a magic number of 17, face significant challenges in their pursuit of consecutive league titles. Analysts on Fuji TV ONE’s ‘Professional Baseball News 2026’ have identified weather and scheduling as primary obstacles.

Because the team plays many home games at Koshien Stadium, which is an outdoor venue, the risk of rain cancellations and subsequent condensed schedules is high. Such disruptions could lead to a heavy workload for the pitching staff and difficult scheduling stretches.

To manage this, expert Akio Saito suggested a strategy for the starting rotation. He recommended that the three main pillars—Haruto Takahashi, Shoki Murakami, and Hiroto Saiki—operate on a four-day rest cycle, aiming to pitch approximately six innings per appearance to preserve the bullpen. This approach is intended to maximize wins while managing the physical demands of the final stretch of the season.
