Hanshin's Shota Morishita hit by pitch sparks fan controversy

Controversy has erupted following a game between the Hanshin Tigers and Yomiuri Giants at Koshien Stadium on August 29, after Hanshin outfielder Shota Morishita was hit by a pitch from Giants pitcher Yushi Akahoshi.

While Akahoshi apologized immediately to Morishita, some Giants fans drew criticism on social media for waving “Saiko desu!” (It is the best!) towels after Morishita was forced to leave the game due to the impact. Critics labeled the behavior as lacking respect for player safety and sportsmanship.

Commentator Yoshiaki Kanemura noted that while the incident caused tension, Morishita himself appeared unbothered, returning to the dugout with a smile. Kanemura also highlighted Morishita’s aggressive playing style, noting he has been hit by pitches 16 times this season, and emphasized that such accidents are often the result of intense professional competition rather than intentional malice.
