Hanura Party urges early finalization of Election Bill

The Hanura Party is urging the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government to finalize the Election Bill (RUU Pemilu) before the end of 2026. Patrice Rio Capella, Chairman of the Hanura DPP Task Force, emphasized that the legislative process should not be left to “injury time” or the final moments of a session.

Capella argued that an early decision would allow political parties, democracy activists, and non-parliamentary parties sufficient time to study the new regulations and provide constructive input. He noted that early finalization provides a window for legal recourse, such as filing judicial reviews with the Constitutional Court, should any articles be deemed inappropriate.

Furthermore, the party highlighted that completing the bill early is essential for the subsequent stages of election preparation, including the selection of commissioners for the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) from central to regional levels. While Hanura expressed readiness to accept the final outcomes regarding the parliamentary threshold and election designs, they stressed the importance of transparency to prevent the rules from being manipulated to disadvantage specific parties.
