Hanwha Aerospace unveils 'One Sky' aero engine development strategy

At the Gas Turbine Symposium 2026 held in Yeosu, Hanwha Aerospace introduced its 'One Sky' development paradigm. This strategy aims to integrate the development of engines for manned and unmanned aircraft to meet the evolving demands of future battlefields.

The 'One Sky' approach leverages 'Legacy Excellence'—the technical expertise gained from 47 years of developing manned aircraft engines—to drive 'New Sky' developments for unmanned systems like drones. Conversely, new technologies derived from unmanned engine development will be cycled back to enhance traditional engine competitiveness.

To support this, Hanwha Aerospace is utilizing 'En-genius', a proprietary AI model trained on decades of engine data and a database of approximately 35,000 materials. This AI integration is intended to minimize costly trial-and-error during the design and testing phases. The company previously unveiled prototypes for a 5,500 lbf turbofan engine and a 1,400 hp turboprop engine, with plans to participate in government-led projects for next-generation fighter engines.
