Hanwha and KAI partner to develop long-range air-to-air missiles
Hanwha Aerospace and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate on the development of a domestic long-range air-to-air missile system. This initiative aims to ensure the successful integration and deployment of indigenous aerial weaponry for the KF-21 fighter jet.
Led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), the system development project is expected to involve an investment of approximately 753.5 billion won through 2033. The South Korean government anticipates that securing domestic missile technology will enable the export of integrated packages consisting of both the KF-21 aircraft and its specialized armament.
The two companies have a history of collaboration, including joint marketing efforts and supply chain sharing. Hanwha has previously supported the KF-21 program by providing aircraft engines, landing gear, and flight control systems, while Hanwha Systems has contributed to the development of AESA radar and infrared search and track equipment.
