Hanwha develops tokenized securities platform for South Korea
Hanwha Investment & Securities has reportedly developed a tokenized securities platform in collaboration with blockchain technology firm FairSquare Lab. The platform is designed to operate across multiple blockchain networks, including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu.
This development aligns with upcoming regulatory changes in South Korea. Amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and Capital Markets Act are scheduled to take effect on February 4, 2027. These changes will legally recognize distributed ledgers as securities registers and integrate tokenized securities into the existing capital markets framework.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) plans a phased implementation. Initially, the regulations will permit the tokenization of certain funds, bonds, unlisted stocks, and fractional investment securities. Long-term goals include expanding tokenization to all public offerings and potentially establishing on-chain settlement infrastructure using stablecoins.
