Hanwha Ocean develops domestic submarine torpedo launch system
Hanwha Ocean has successfully developed a domestic water ram type horizontal launch device, a core component for submarines used to eject torpedoes and other armaments into the sea. Developed in collaboration with the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) over a ten year period, this technology replaces equipment that previously relied on imports.
The new system utilizes water pressure to propel armaments and includes precision control technology to ensure projectiles are launched at stable, predetermined speeds. The device is designed to withstand high external water pressure and significant impact when operating in deep sea environments. To enhance reliability, Hanwha Ocean implemented multiple safety mechanisms to prevent malfunctions.
By localizing this technology, the company expects to reduce procurement costs and shorten delivery timelines. The simplified structure of the device is also intended to ease maintenance and operational burdens. Hanwha Ocean stated that the expertise gained, including launch force analysis technology, will be applied to next generation submarine development and to strengthening export competitiveness in the global market.
