Hanwha Ocean launches Seo Hui submarine in South Korea

Hanwha Ocean has launched the Seo Hui, the second KSS-III Batch-II type submarine being built for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). The ceremony, held at the Hanwha Ocean shipyard in Geoje, was organized by the ROKN and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

A high-level Greek delegation attended the event, including the Greek Ambassador to South Korea, Loukas Tsokos, and Panos Xenokostas, Chairman and CEO of ONEX Shipyards & Technologies. The presence of ONEX highlights the strategic cooperation between the company and Hanwha Ocean under Project Trident, a shipbuilding alliance involving the United States, Greece, and South Korea.

The Seo Hui is a 3,600-ton displacement submarine featuring upgraded combat management and sonar systems, enhanced low observability, and a hybrid propulsion system combining air-independent propulsion (AIP) with lithium-ion batteries. Following upcoming trials, delivery to the ROKN is scheduled for 2028. Hanwha Ocean has constructed 17 of the 24 submarines ordered by the ROKN through the KSS-I, KSS-II, and KSS-III programs.
