Hanwha Ocean receives ABS certification for standardized FPSO design

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has issued a Basic Design Review (BDR) certification to Hanwha Ocean for a standardized floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) design. This design is specifically developed for deepwater markets in South America and West Africa.

The certification encompasses Hanwha Ocean’s front-end engineering design (FEED) and includes a review of technical standards for the hull, topsides, and mooring arrangements. Additionally, ABS provided approval in principle for the FPSO, incorporating features to meet SUSTAIN-2 notation requirements, and issued a Statement of Fact regarding the company’s Project Sustainability Execution Plan (PSEP).

This standardized, repeatable platform is intended to enhance efficiency and scalability in large-scale deepwater projects. The initiative is part of Hanwha Ocean’s strategy to develop Low Carbon Standard FPSOs, aiming to shorten project schedules and improve cost competitiveness in major global production regions.
