Hanwha Ocean secures $500 million LNG carrier order

Hanwha Ocean has secured a contract for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from an African shipowner, valued at approximately 680 billion won ($500 million). This deal brings the company’s total orders for September to roughly 2.89 trillion won ($2.1 billion), following previous major contracts for very large gas carriers and LNG dual-fuel container ships.

In a separate development, Hanwha Power received approval in principle from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for a 22,000-cubic-meter LNG-ammonia bunkering vessel concept. The design features hybrid-electric propulsion and multi-cargo capability, aimed at supporting the growing demand for vessels that can handle multiple fuel types.

Despite the influx of orders, Hanwha Ocean faces operational risks due to ongoing labor-management negotiations and partial strikes, which have previously impacted critical construction equipment.
