Hanwha Ocean selected for Thai Navy frigate project

Hanwha Ocean has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Royal Thai Navy’s next-generation frigate procurement project. The contract, valued at approximately 16.73 billion baht (roughly 683 billion won or 508 million USD), covers the construction of one frigate and integrated logistics support.

Competing against shipbuilders from Spain, Singapore, and Turkey, Hanwha Ocean proposed the OCEAN-40F, a 4,000-ton class frigate featuring stealth hull design and drone response systems. The company’s selection is bolstered by its previous successful delivery of the HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej to Thailand in 2018, providing a proven platform for the Thai Navy to maintain operational continuity in training and maintenance.

The selection follows support from South Korean government and military agencies, including the Ministry of National Defense and the Republic of Korea Navy. Hanwha Ocean will now enter detailed negotiations regarding technical specifications and the project scope before a final contract is signed.
