Hanwha Ocean to build six LNG container ships for Yang Ming
Hanwha Ocean has secured a contract to build six 13,650 TEU LNG dual-fuel propulsion container ships for Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. The deal is valued at approximately 1.55 trillion KRW.
This follows a previous order of seven vessels placed by Yang Ming last September, bringing the total number of LNG dual-fuel container ships ordered from Hanwha Ocean to 13. The new vessels are scheduled to be constructed at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje shipyard and delivered sequentially through the second half of 2029.
The ships will feature Hanwha Ocean's proprietary Type-B LNG fuel tanks made from high-manganese steel, which offers better cost-competitiveness and safety at cryogenic temperatures compared to nickel alloy or aluminum. Additionally, the vessels will be ‘ammonia-ready’ to allow for future transitions to ammonia fuel, supporting international maritime environmental regulations.
