Hanwha Ocean unveils 60MW Floating Data Center at Gastech 2026

Hanwha Ocean has unveiled its 60MW Floating Data Center (FDC) model at Gastech 2026, a major energy exhibition held in Thailand. The company developed the FDC to address the growing demand for AI-driven data centers, which face challenges on land such as high power consumption, land acquisition difficulties, cooling efficiency, and local community complaints.

The FDC utilizes a modular design, allowing for flexible configurations of power supply, server types, and capacity based on the specific environment and user needs. Key advantages include the ability to produce power at sea and use seawater for efficient cooling systems. The project integrates the diverse capabilities of the Hanwha Group, including shipbuilding, energy, data centers, and security.

Hanwha Ocean recently received Approval in Principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the 60MW FDC concept design, verifying its technical feasibility. Additionally, the company is showcasing a model for a 174,000 cubic meter carbon-free LNG carrier at the exhibition.
