Hanyu Guo upsets Sorana Cîrstea at Wuhan Open

Hanyu Guo secured a significant career victory at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, defeating the 12th seed, Sorana Cîrstea, in a three-set match lasting two hours and 41 minutes.

Guo, ranked 240th in the world, staged a major comeback after losing the first set 6-1 and trailing 0-4 in the second. She managed to save three match points during the second-set tie-break to win the set 7-6(6). Despite Cîrstea leading 5-3 in the deciding set, Guo won the final four games to clinch the match with a score of 1-6, 7-6(6), 7-5.

This marks Guo's first victory against a top-20 player. She is scheduled to face Katie Volynets in the next round.
