Hape Kerkeling undecided on German presidency petition

Entertainer and comedian Hape Kerkeling has expressed uncertainty regarding a public petition suggesting him for the office of German President. During an appearance on the Dutch television program ‘Buitenhof’, Kerkeling noted that he has not yet been formally asked and remains undecided, stating, ‘I don’t have an answer to that yet.’ The petition, hosted by the campaign organization Campact, has garnered over 144,000 signatures.

Kerkeling also commented on the recent electoral success of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt, expressing concern over the results. He attributed the political shift to unresolved economic and social issues in the region following reunification. While he described the party's rise as worrying, he expressed confidence in the strength of the German Basic Law and the democratic majority of the population.
