Haraççı family presses Ankara municipality for overdue compensation
The Haraççı family from Çankaya, Ankara, has been waiting about seven years for compensation of roughly 800,000 Turkish lira for a 104‑square‑metre portion of their property that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) used as a road and sidewalk without expropriation.
Although the family won at the local court, the appellate court and obtained precedent‑setting rulings from the Turkish Supreme Court (Yargıtay), ABB allegedly re‑filed the case and has not paid the amount, while other co‑owners of the same building received their compensation earlier. Gaye Haraççı, speaking for the family, cited health problems and lack of social security, and urged the municipality to settle the claim promptly.
