Harald Vodosek appointed new Chief of the Austrian General Staff

Harald Vodosek has been appointed as the new Chief of the General Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces. Vodosek, a Lieutenant General, has served as the director of procurement (Directorate 5) since 2021, where he played a significant role in implementing the 'Aufbauplan 2032+' modernization program.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner announced the decision, noting Vodosek’s extensive experience in operations, leadership, personnel, and procurement. He succeeds Rudolf Striedinger, who is set to retire at the end of September. The appointment follows a selection process involving six applicants. Minister Tanner has informed President Alexander Van der Bellen, who is responsible for reviewing the decision and formally appointing the Chief of the General Staff.

Vodosek stated his intention to work with the ministry and the General Staff to lead the military toward a modern future, focusing on strengthening national defense to meet upcoming challenges.
