Harare man faces armed robbery charges for series of home invasions

Chamunorwa Takawira, 33, has appeared in court facing multiple counts of armed robbery following a series of home invasions across several Harare suburbs between July and September 2026.

According to court proceedings, the robberies involved the use of pistols, machetes, and iron bars to subdue residents. The gang targeted various homes in areas including Ashdown Park, Cold Comfort, and Houghton Park, stealing cash, mobile phones, laptops, and other electronics. The total value of the stolen property is estimated to be significant, with individual incidents involving thousands of dollars in assets.

The investigation gained momentum following the arrest of Chiedza Jamombe on September 30. During the investigation, Jamombe allegedly implicated her husband, John Nhira, and Takawira. While Jamombe has been processed, Nhira remains at large. Takawira was arrested in Seke and has been remanded in custody, with prosecutors opposing bail due to concerns that he may flee or interfere with witnesses.
