Harbhajan Singh faces political row over Punjab drug video

A political controversy has erupted in Punjab following social media posts by BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Singh shared a video depicting individuals appearing motionless, which he suggested was evidence of a growing drug crisis and the use of ‘zombie drugs’ among Punjab’s youth.

However, the Punjab Police issued a clarification stating the footage was actually recorded in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and had no connection to Punjab. The police noted that a Punjabi audio track does not make an incident a Punjab incident.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused Singh and other celebrities of spreading misinformation to defame the state and its government. AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Baltej Pannu, alleged the content was part of a coordinated effort to malign Punjab's reputation. Pannu indicated that authorities might pursue legal action against those who shared the misleading video.

Harbhajan Singh has defended his actions, dismissing critics as ‘paid trolls’ and maintaining that while the specific video's location may be disputed, the systemic issue of narcotics in Punjab remains a critical reality that requires urgent government accountability.
